Bud Clark earned his first career Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week Award.
TCU senior safety Bud Clark was named the Big 12 Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Clark returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown in the Horned Frogs’ 48-14 victory over North Carolina on Monday evening. He also contributed five tackles in the Frogs’ swarming of the Tar Heels, who could garner only 139 yards on 42 plays over the final 56 minutes of play in the season opener for both teams.
The interception came at a pivotal moment, with TCU up just 10-7 late in the second quarter after turning the ball over deep in North Carolina territory.
Clark, a three-time captain, is from Alexandria, Louisiana. He is on the Jim Thorpe Award watch list. The Jim Thorpe Award is presented annually to college football’s best defensive back.
Clark is creeping into elite company at TCU. With 12 career interceptions, he’s only one pick away from cracking the program’s top seven all-time.
