To me, few things are as worthy of my money — and the time it takes to manually enter my credit card information via an e-commerce site — like an amazing tee. Add the opportunity to contribute to a great cause, and whatever resistance I had to online shopping is strategically dismantled. So, it would make sense that I would end up spending copious amounts of money at the following two sites — both of which make killer, Fort Worth-centric tees and the proceeds benefit local businesses.
SupportOurFort.com offers two tees — each costing $25 unless you opt for an XXL, which will run you a whopping $2 more. All the proceeds of the “Support Our Fort” tee go toward the purchase of gift certificates to neighborhood establishments. Interestingly, you’d also get the chance to win your money back when they raffle the gift certificates via social media. Meanwhile, the proceeds for the second tee, “Noods for Charity,” will go toward a charity headed by chef Kevin Martinez of Tokyo Café, which promises to feed service industry families with meals to-go. As a side note, a third tee, which featured a pennant design no longer seems to be available.
The second site, SupportTheFort.itemorder.com, has a concept that’s far more straightforward. Featuring 19 shirts from 19 different local businesses — all of which, you will notice, are businesses that would naturally be struggling during a time of a strict social distancing mandate — $10 from each sale will go toward the business whose shirt you purchased. Those participating include Avoca Coffee, Chat Room Pub, Fred’s, FunkyTown Donuts, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, and Salsa Limon — just to name a few. And, coming from someone who take pride in his T-shirt collection, each one is worthy to sport on a Saturday down Magnolia. It’s $20 well spent.
