Downtown’s long-awaited and much-needed grocery concept welcomed its first shoppers Tuesday.
Neighbor's House Grocery is the first of several street-level retail outlets that are part of the First on 7th project — a renovation of the 21-story tower formerly known as Bank of America Center, at 500 W. 7th St.
More improvements to the building are underway, including a new pedestrian-friendly green space for its surrounding plaza.
The store features a café with dine-in seating facing 6th Street on the north side of the building. There's a wide selection of ready-made grab-and-go options, including a selection of hot items under the Chef’s Table sign, and sandwiches like gourmet grilled cheeses or pressed panini sandwiches made-to-order.
Downtown dwellers will also enjoy chef-prepared meals that are ready-to-eat or cook-at-home.
Standard grocery items mix with specialty items like balsamic vinegar and canned sardines and anchovies ― all neatly stored in black cubby shelves.
Cold case and freezer sections are stocked with all the basics as well as some “new staples” like bagged kimchi and sauerkraut, imported European butters, and plant-based favs like Boca Burgers.
Shoppers will find fresh produce, a fresh juice bar, a wide selection of wines, local craft beer, and accessories in stock. There is an in-house butcher section as well.
