Juneteenth is a cultural and historical cornerstone for African Americans. The holiday, June 19, originated in Galveston and commemorates slaves learning of their freedom — more than two years after slavery was outlawed through the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863.
While the holiday’s roots are quite a bit south of Fort Worth, there are celebratory Juneteenth events taking place right here. From good eats to musical and artistic expressions, as well as socially distanced celebrations — indulge in Black culture, history, and pride at one of these celebratory events taking place this week.
