Amphibian Stage has announced a new multi-sensory project, Neighborhood Leap, an app-based augmented reality art walk exploring the creative energy of South Main Village.
This experience is possible through the theater’s partnership with Blue Zones Project Fort Worth, and the app will launch June 25 from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., and will remain active during the summer. The app will merge newly-commissioned works of music, visual art, movement, and storytelling from local artists with existing public art pieces.
"The last two years have taught us the power of working to support our community,” Amphibian Stage founder and artistic director, Kathleen Culebro, said when asked what a project of this nature will deliver to Fort Worthians. “The South Main Village residents and business owners came together and helped one another through some very rough times. We wanted to do something to give back to our city by highlighting all the wonderful things our neighborhood offers. In just a 30-minute walk, you will encounter over 20 works of art, lovely parks, and countless independently-owned shops and eateries, each one a treasure. We're in love with this area and excited to give people a chance to fall in love too. Whether it's your first visit or you think you know it well — there will be something new to discover."
The cutting-edge experience collides new works and existing public art featured in the walk. The Cultural Assembly, a creative agency for technology and cultural change, helped create the app with additional partnerships with Near Southside Arts and Texas Commission on the Arts.
According to the press release, Amphibian Stage is thrilled to partner with Blue Zones Project for this dynamic project. After the last two years of anxiety, social isolation, and fear, Neighborhood Leap invites the public to experience physical, mental, and emotional inspiration through activity, art, and community.
"In addition to Neighborhood Leap being incredibly innovative, it touches on so many aspects that align with Blue Zones principles for better well-being," says Matt Dufrene, Vice President, Blue Zones Project Fort Worth. "An environment that promotes moving naturally, downshifting through the exploration of art and creativity, and social interactions – it's all there within a 1-mile loop in an area designed for all users. We are pleased to support Amphibian Stage in this endeavor and hope there may be an opportunity for expanding this concept to other areas of our community in the future."
