Fort Worth Botanic Garden
Hispanic Heritage Month lasts from Sept. 15 – Oct. 15, but Fort Worth Botanic Garden | Botanical Research Institute of Texas is extending the celebration all the way to November.
The garden has announced its lineup of Hispanic Heritage Month events as part of "¡Celebramos! A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage," with activities planned every weekend between Oct. 1 and Nov. 7. (And, before then, guests can view the currently running art exhibit, "Arte y Artesanía Botánica: Mexico’s Abiding Connection to the Natural World.")
Here's a quick peek at the upcoming calendar.
Oct. 1 – 3
Two events will kick off Celebramos in October: a members/VIP-only artist night with Fort Worth muralist Juan Velázquez and Mariposa Market, an artisan shopping event open to all guests, featuring ballet folklórico dancing and food trucks.
Oct. 8 – 10
The second weekend of October will feature a fall plant sale; the Fridamania: Casa Azul Party, during which the garden hopes to "set a record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Frida Kahlo in one place"; and a Fort Worth Opera performance of “Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World.”
Oct. 15 – 17
The Botanic Garden will host an Education Day featuring a story time, documentary screening, and artist talk with Velázquez. Then, on Saturday night, families can gather in the Garden Horseshoe for a screening of the Pixar film, "Coco."
Oct. 22 – 24
Another VIP event, the VIP Garden Party: Celebración del Jardín, is scheduled to take place Oct. 21. That weekend, the general public can come shop at the garden's Hispanic Artisans' Fair, showcasing over 35 vendors.
Oct. 29 – 31
For Halloween weekend, the garden is inviting guests to dress up in skull costumes for a Day of the Dead Street Party, which will include multiple bars, alcohol vendors, food trucks, and live bands.
Nov. 5 – 7
Celebrations end the first weekend of November when the garden hosts a Tacos in the Garden festival, featuring 8 – 15 taco vendors and margaritas.
