Canyon Ranch Tucson
Canyon Ranch
When the Michelin Guide — a name more often associated with the world’s finest restaurants — announced a brand-new award for wellness, one American resort rose to the top: Canyon Ranch Tucson. This desert getaway, long known for its immersive approach to health and healing, was tapped as the only property in the U.S. to be nominated for the inaugural Michelin Wellness Award, a recognition reserved for just five hotels worldwide, according to a release.
It’s a big moment, not just for Tucson, but for every Canyon Ranch outpost — including our very own Canyon Ranch Fort Worth Wellness Club.
For more than forty years, Canyon Ranch has been something of a pilgrimage site for those seeking more than just a spa day. Founded in 1979, the brand helped redefine “wellness travel,” weaving together fitness, medicine, nutrition, spirituality, and mental health into stays that aim less for temporary relaxation and more for lifelong transformation. Their resorts have consistently earned Michelin’s highest honors — three Keys each for Tucson and Woodside, California, and two Keys for Lenox, Massachusetts. But this Wellness Award, to be announced on October 8, represents something bigger: global recognition that Canyon Ranch doesn’t just pamper — it puts its guests' health at the forefront.
That philosophy is alive and well in Fort Worth, where Canyon Ranch quietly opened its first Texas Wellness Club in June 2023. Tucked into the city’s cultural fabric, the club brings the Canyon Ranch ethos closer to home, no desert pilgrimage required.
“Canyon Ranch exists to inspire a better way of life,” said then CEO Jeff Kuster at the Fort Worth opening. And he meant it. The club offers a full-spectrum approach — mental, physical, spiritual — supported by some very twenty-first-century tools. Think high-tech assessments that don’t just measure your fitness but help design a customized plan for building strength, resilience, and balance.
In classic Texas fashion, the Fort Worth location isn’t a scaled-down version of the original — it’s a bold expansion of what wellness can mean in an urban setting. The focus is on community, daily rituals, and cultivating balance amid the speed of modern life. It’s a reminder that wellness isn’t only found in the quiet of the Sonoran Desert or the redwoods of Northern California. Sometimes, it’s found right here in Cowtown.
Of course, Michelin’s new Wellness Award isn’t handed out lightly. Last year, the organization evaluated more than 5,000 hotels across the globe, using criteria that go beyond fine linens and polished service. Architecture, personality, value, and a hotel’s ability to truly enhance its setting all factor into the Key system — the lodging counterpart to Michelin Stars for restaurants. A nomination means Canyon Ranch Tucson belongs to a rare class of hotels that shape the way we experience travel.
But for Fort Worth locals, the real story is this: while the world watches Tucson, we’ve got our own piece of Canyon Ranch right here. A place that blends science with soul, technology with tradition, and invites us to think about wellness not as an occasional indulgence but as a way of life.
“We could not be more excited to bring Canyon Ranch to our city,” Cami Goff said during the Canyon Ranch Fort Worth Wellness Club grand opening. “While neither John nor I were born in Fort Worth, we consider this our hometown. We’re so thrilled that this innovative wellness club will be the first of its kind in the country and the city we love so much.”
