Remember that time Robert Redford and Casey Affleck were in Fort Worth filming a movie? Well, that film hits theaters Friday.
“The Old Man and the Gun” tells the true story of Forrest Tucker, a prison escape artist and professional criminal. The film features Robert Redford as Tucker, Casey Affleck as the detective consumed in the case and Sissy Spacek as Tucker’s love interest. David Lowery wrote and directed the film, which also includes actors Danny Glover, Tika Sumpter and musician/actor Tom Waits.
Some of the notable locations shot in Fort Worth were in Sundance Square, Thistle Hill, TCC-Riverside and the Tarrant County Corrections vacant jail. There were many other locations, thanks to the help of the Fort Worth Film Commission.
“David and his team provided excerpts from the script and descriptions of the locations needed to accomplish a certain scene. The film is set in the late '70s and early '80s, so they had a very specific look in mind,” said Jessica Christopherson, assistant vice president of marketing and film commissioner of Fort Worth.
The film commission then worked with community partners, the City of Fort Worth's Planning & Development permitting department, business owners and residents who had locations that met the film's needs.
The Old Man and the Gun is just one of 60-plus projects filmed in Fort Worth from October 2017 to today.
“The film commission served as the hub to connect all the dots needed to make the scene come to life,” Christopherson said.
