"This is My Story"
Amphibian Stage's latest production is a film project, one meant to give local Black men a platform to share their stories.
The film, "This is My Story," puts a spotlight on U.S. Navy veteran LaJohn McDonald Jr.; Dr. Carlos Walker, Sr., a director within the Fort Worth ISD Equity & Excellence Division, working for the Family Action Center; and Henry Wasonga Abuto, owner of catering company ByWasonga. Using personal storytelling, poetry, and music, the film asks its subjects, “When have you been silenced?”, and explores the topic of self-censorship among Black men.
According to Amphibian Stage, the film is meant to "[challenge] us to look deeper, shed assumptions, and envision what is possible when we approach one another with understanding and compassion."
"This is My Story" is a collaboration between Amphibian Stage artistic director Kathleen Culebro and educator and podcaster Dev'n Goodman. It was filmed and edited by Fort Worth-based production company Shiny Box Pictures.
The film will premiere via Facebook and Vimeo on April 11 at 3 p.m. More information is available at amphibianstage.com.
