If you watched “America’s Got Talent” recently then you probably did a double take on the charming Elvis look-alike who strode onto stage.
Fans of the show that features aspiring young talent compete for big prizes certainly did.
Alas, it wasn’t the King of Rock and Roll making a return just in time for the new “Elvis” movie, but instead Fort Worth’s very own Drake Milligan. Now based in Nashville, the 23-year-old strived to be like the Memphis Flash from a young age.
Milligan has a style much like Elvis, so much so that he did his own Elvis impersonating in the past. That led to his being cast as Elvis himself in the CMT series “Sun Records.”
“When I was about 7, I was out eating with my family, and there was an Elvis impersonator at the restaurant. I was enthralled,” Mulligans recalls. “I think that’s why I decided to be like Elvis.”
Just like Elvis, Milligan proceeded to not only look like Elvis but gave a performance that even the usual scowling critic Simon Cowell gave his stamp of approval.
Fans of “America’s Got Talent” were quick to dub Milligan “The New Elvis of Country” after his audition, singing his original song, Sounds Like Something I’d Do that won him four out of four votes.
“I think the song was a hit and that you’re a hit,” judge Howie Mandel told him. “You’re like the new Elvis of country. I think you’re going to break out from this particular song, this particular moment, on this particular night.
