Fort Worth Zoo
Check out @FortWorthZoo on TikTok for the goodness of rhinos with the zoomies and more.
It’s just a little quieter at the Fort Worth Zoo these days as the destination has to wait a little while before letting the public back inside. But these restrictions don’t have to stop you from getting your daily dose of cuteness.
The folks at Fort Worth Zoo have undertaken new efforts to connect with fans remotely, expanding on the regular posting of photos and videos to include live keeper chats every other day. Kids are also able to send the zoo videos with their animal questions for keepers to respond, via video, with the answers.
They’re even on TikTok now, the trendy video-clip app, and wholesome content shared on the @FortWorthZoo account may just be exactly what the world could use right now … I mean, c’mon, just look at Crockett the Rhino go.
“It’s a work in progress, but we’re having fun engaging with Zoo visitors this way,” says Avery Elander, Fort Worth Zoo spokeswoman. “We invite the public to stay engaged with us on social media! We miss having visitors in the park, so it’s nice to connect virtually.”
Elander says the new circumstances are “just different” rather than challenging — keepers continue day-to-day routines of the nearly 7,000 animals (cleaning exhibits, feeding, providing enrichment). Staff capacity hasn’t been affected at this time, she says, but those at the zoo are practicing social distancing, wearing gloves and masks, and are consistently cleaning frequently used and hard surfaces.
“Staff is still here caring and feeding the animals and maintaining the park land as we would any other day, but without having guests in the park every day,” Elander says. “It’s just a little quieter around here.”
Since the zoo isn’t allowed to let anyone in at this time, purchase or renewal of memberships are encouraged, and donations of any amount can be made at fortworthzoo.org/donate-now.
