Globe Life Field
Drive-in movie theaters have been doing it for years. Now, thanks to COVID-19 and social distancing, the music scene is catching up.
The Texas Rangers announced Tuesday that Globe Life Field will begin hosting drive-in concerts in June. Known as the QuikTrip Concert in Your Car presented by Energy Transfer, some big names are already lined up to play: Eli Young Band will perform on June 4, Whiskey Myers on June 5, Fort Worth's own Pat Green on June 6, and the Josh Abbott Band and Kevin Fowler on June 7.
Each concert begins at 9 p.m., and parking lots will open one hour prior to the show. The shows will take place in Tundra Lot B, just north of Globe Life Field. While audience members stay in their cars, artists will play on a stage in the parking lot. Jumbo screens will also display the performance, and concert audio will be available through a specially designated FM radio channel.
“We are eager to once again start providing entertainment to our fans and to be able to offer the experience in a way that takes into account health and safety guidelines,” Rangers executive vice president of sports and entertainment Sean Decker said in a statement. “We have a full slate of bands, and each will present an exciting show every night.”
