As Janet Jackson’s “Together Again” tour rolls through Cowtown — she performs tonight at Dickies Arena with special guest Nelly — Jackson and her stable of tour members appear to be enjoying their time in Fort Worth.
Thanks to a 7-minute video uploaded to the pop star’s Facebook page, we were able to catch wind that she and her fellow roadies, dancers, background singers, etc. enjoyed a day of fun and hijinks at Burger’s Lake, the family-friendly swimming hole near the southeast corner of Lake Worth.
Pickleball; backyard games, including potato sack racing; 20-foot-tall carnival rides; chowing down on BBQ; and getting mock Mike Tyson facial tattoos ensued. It all appeared to be fun fit for an episode of the Brady Bunch.
“We really needed to be together, as a group, as a family,” Jackson says at the 21-second mark of the video. “It’s really nice.”
According to the Grammy-winning, Billboard-topping singer’s tour schedule, the group have been on the road since June 4. And, with a four-day stretch of zero shows after playing Atlanta on July 21, this was clearly a much-needed hiatus.
The video appears to be partially muted — probably thanks to an AI bot picking up copyright infringement of Mrs. Jackson’s own song — so you'll spend a solid portion of the upload reading lips. But, one section we’re thankful escaped the copyright police is of a tour member dousing himself with bug spray and explaining how mosquitos feast on his legs when playing outdoor amphitheaters. We’re sure the same holds true for Burger's Lake, so, smart move on the spray.
Looking at the video through the lens of a Fort Worthian, it also appears the group received catering from fave local barbecue joint, Heim. Heck, one of their employees even got a speaking part.
“We got some brisket, pork ribs, jalapeño sausage, and bacon burnt ends,” the Heim employee said while giving the cameraman a tour of the spread. And, for what it’s worth, it appears Jackson happens to be a fan of the pork ribs — with extra BBQ sauce, naturally.
“Everybody had a lot of fun,” Jackson said at the end of the video. “We just needed another day out in the sun. Even though it’s very humid, very warm [she says while wearing a long-sleeve black tee, mind you], we needed this … we don’t spend enough time outside.”
Jackson, whose chart-topping hits include “That’s the Way Love Goes,” “Together Again,” “All For You,” and “Scream” — the latter a duet with her late brother, Michael — will be performing tonight at Dickies Arena. And, yes, there are tickets still available.
