It goes without saying that it's been a pretty rough year for the arts, with theaters closed, musicians unable to perform, and many artists left without work due to COVID-19.
This Friday at noon, the Kimbell Art Museum and KERA's Art&Seek will look back at the past year's challenges — and triumphs — in a "State of the Arts" discussion titled, "What We’ve Gained in a Year of Loss — and What’s Next." The free, one-hour event will take place via Art&Seek's YouTube channel.
Featured guests are DJ Perera, Sri Lankan artist and art educator for the Fort Worth Independent School District; Jeffrey Smith, founder of Downtown Cowtown at the Isis; and Dana Schultes, executive producer for Stage West. Art&Seek reporter and producer Miguel Perez will moderate the discussion.
According to the Kimbell, the discussion will "[look] back on a year when we lost so much" and "[reflect] on challenges and changes across genres and how we engage with art in this time of social distancing."
State of the Arts Fort Worth is an ongoing series produced by the Kimbell and Art&Seek, meant to stimulate discussion on trends and issues affecting North Texas arts organizations. More information is available at kimbellart.org.
