Meow Wolf
There’s strange magic afoot at the Grapevine Mills Mall — stranger than usual, even by Meow Wolf’s standards. This holiday season, “The Real Unreal” will hum with new life as the portals open to welcome “Phenomenomaly,” a first-of-its-kind, full-scale live performance series running Fridays through Sundays from Nov. 15, 2025, through Jan. 4, 2026.
Picture this: you’re wandering through the kaleidoscopic corridors of Meow Wolf’s North Texas outpost when a troupe of dancers sweeps past, a saxophone wails from somewhere overhead, and a shimmering creature — part firefly, part fever dream — glides through the air. Actors, musicians, and puppeteers move among the exhibits, improvising scenes and songs inspired by the mysterious migration of the Flickerwerm — a glowing species said to drift south for the winter when the portals align just right.
Billed as “live, explorable theater,” “ Phenomenomaly” transforms “The Real Unreal” into a moving landscape of music, dance, and interactive storytelling. Performers roam the exhibition in real time, drawing guests into spontaneous scenes that ripple across the multiverse. Each show loops throughout the afternoon — meaning visitors can step into the story at any moment and still find themselves swept up in the action.
At the heart of it all is the journey of the Flickerwerms and the quirky crew that follows them — the Lil’ Bigg Miss Fitts, a group of well-meaning werm enthusiasts trying to conjure the perfect conditions for migration, according to a release. Along the way, the Keepers emerge as guardians of the portals, teaching guests' gestures and sounds to activate hidden pathways. When the energy peaks, Mama Flickerwerm herself arrives in a glowing finale — a parade of light, sound, and shared wonder that floods the space in color and motion.
If Meow Wolf’s installations are known for bending the rules of reality, “Phenomenomaly” adds a Lone Star twist: every weekend, a different Texas performance group takes center stage. From hip-hop battles to folklórico dances, the lineup showcases the vast creative range that makes North Texas a cultural force.
The series kicks off Nov. 14–16 with Battle Grounds, a hip-hop community organization that celebrates freestyle storytelling and the roots of street culture. The following weekend brings Prism Movement Theater and Corazon Valiente Ballet Folklorico, whose performances blend contemporary movement with the vibrant traditions of Mexican dance.

Thanksgiving weekend lights up with Texas Dragon/Lion Dance Team, an Austin-based group that has shared the athletic artistry of traditional lion and dragon dance for more than 25 years. December brings operatic grandeur from Fort Worth Opera (Dec. 5–7), youthful energy from LCBE Project Dancin’ Divas (Dec. 12–14), and ballroom brilliance from House of Garcon – Gulf Coast Chapter (Dec. 19–21), where performance meets fashion and self-expression.
After Christmas, Zaara Bellydance (Dec. 26–28) brings fluid grace and rhythm to the space, and the series closes with Prism Movement Theater and Desi Voice, a Muscogee Creek, Oglala Lakota, and Standing Rock Sioux performer whose Fancy Feather Dance (Dec. 31–Jan. 4) honors Native traditions while showcasing strength, speed, and spirit.
Running Fridays through Sundays from 1to 6 p.m., “Phenomenomaly” is included with admission to “The Real Unreal.” Each weekend offers new performances, ensuring that no two visits feel the same. Call it a holiday tradition from another dimension — part art installation, part immersive theater, part Texas-sized celebration of creativity.
“‘Phenomenomaly’ invites our guests to become part of a story as it unfolds live,” said Jamie Weaver-Garia, general manager of Meow Wolf Grapevine. “You explore, you play, and you meet a cast of strange and friendly characters who bring this place to life. It’s a new chapter for ‘The Real Unreal’ and an unforgettable way to experience Meow Wolf during the holidays.”
