Meow Wolf
Meow Wolf is finally making its way to the city that never sleeps. The creators of mind-bending, genre-defying immersive experiences are setting up shop at Pier 17 in the historic New York Seaport, bringing their signature blend of art, storytelling, and interactivity to one of the most iconic cultural hubs in the world, according to a release.
Meow Wolf isn’t just an art collective — it’s a phenomenon. Recognized by Fast Company as one of the World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies and awarded Time Out's #1 Immersive Experience in the US (2023), Meow Wolf has redefined how audiences engage with art. From its DIY roots in Santa Fe in 2008 to mind-expanding permanent locations in Las Vegas, Denver, Houston, and Grapevine, Meow Wolf keeps pushing the boundaries of interactive storytelling.
For years, East Coast fans have been calling for their turn to step through Meow Wolf’s looking glass. Now, the wait is over. The announcement unfolded at South by Southwest (SXSW) in true Meow Wolf fashion — on stage, in a moment of controlled chaos. Plotzo, the self-proclaimed rat king of the “undermallers,” crashed a panel called “Dada for Dada: The Power of Absurdity” to drop the news. If ever there was a way to say, “We’re coming to New York,” this was it.
Meow Wolf has never been interested in coloring inside the lines. What started as an art collective assembling otherworldly experiences from salvaged materials has turned into something bigger than anyone could have imagined — a living, breathing, shape-shifting story that will now stretch towards the east.
“The energy of New York City is unlike anywhere else, and it’s the perfect place for Meow Wolf,” said CEO Jose Tolosa, who knows the city like an old friend, having called it home for over a decade. “This city has given the world so much groundbreaking art and culture, and I’m beyond thrilled that we’re bringing something truly unique to the greatest city in the world.”

Meow Wolf
New York has always thrived on reinvention. It’s a city that never stops moving, that devours ideas and spits them back out as something entirely new. It’s the perfect playground for Meow Wolf’s next act.
“I’ve been closely involved in bringing this to life, and I couldn’t be more excited,” said Meow Wolf co-founder and chief vision officer Vince Kadlubek. “We’re creating something with a level of creative ambition and next-generation storytelling that pushes beyond anything we’ve done before — an experience that truly belongs in this city.”
As the first Certified B Corporation in the entertainment industry, Meow Wolf is committed to making each new space a reflection of the city that hosts it. That means working with local artists, diving deep into the city’s creative core, and making something that feels like it’s always belonged.
The details — theme, opening date, all the juicy specifics — are still to come. But one thing is certain: Meow Wolf’s New York debut won’t just be another exhibit. It’ll be an evolution, a love letter, a challenge, a playground for the impossible.
Benji Geary, Meow Wolf co-founder, artist, and 2025 SXSW panelist, puts it bluntly: “New York is its own planet. A hyperobject of culture — self-assured, jaded, but hungry. It devours, reinvents, and warps reality through sheer density of minds. What happens when we throw our weird into that mix? The artists, the energy, the exquisite corpse of collaboration — what egregore will emerge? This isn’t a Meow Wolf exhibit in NYC. It’s NYC’s Meow Wolf exhibit. It’s gonna be what it wants to be.”
