Fort Worth's Cultural District continues to reawaken after spending months closed due to COVID-19. The next museums to announce reopening — the Kimbell Art Museum and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
The Kimbell will reopen June 20 (with member previews beginning June 18), while The Modern will reopen July 1.
At the Kimbell, special exhibit Flesh and Blood: Italian Masterpieces from the Capodimonte Museum will be extended through July. The Kimbell has also installed more than 30 masterpieces from its African, Ancient American, and Asian collections in the Louis I. Kahn Building, alongside the museum’s European paintings and sculpture.
At The Modern, special exhibit Mark Bradford: End Papers will be extended through Jan. 10, and Red Grooms's Ruckus Rodeo will be on view through Aug. 16.
Both museums will also practice new safety measures, requiring patrons to wear masks, discouraging those experiencing symptoms of respiratory infection to visit, and encouraging social distancing. Café Modern will open for lunch, but the Kimbell's buffet and café will remain closed.
A full description of safety measures can be found on the Kimbell's and Modern's websites.
Elsewhere in the Cultural District, the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame also recently announced it will reopen June 24. Other museums like the Amon Carter Museum of American Art and the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History remain closed.
