Sorry, Fort Worth. Diplo’s going to have to wait.
Fortress Festival announced Friday that there will be no event in 2020, instead opting to reschedule for April 24 – 25, 2021.
The annual music festival was originally scheduled to take place later this month on two stages in Fort Worth’s Cultural District. The lineup boasted big-name acts like Diplo, Miguel, and Cuco, alongside local acts like PRIZM and Son of Stan. However, like every other event scheduled to take place around this time, Fortress was forced to postpone due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a press release, the majority of acts — including headliners Diplo and Miguel — have confirmed to return next year. If an artist won’t be able to perform, Fortress promises to replace that artist with another of the same caliber.
Fortress will announce any changes before tickets go on sale later this year.
Tickets purchased for the 2020 festival will be honored in 2021, and ticket holders can also redeem perks like additional 2021 tickets, 2022 tickets, and more. Those unable to attend in 2021 can also receive a refund upon request.
In an interview with Fort Worth Magazine, festival co-founder Alec Jhangiani noted a couple reasons for skipping 2020: Had the event still taken place later in the year, the only time to do it would have been the fall, conflicting with Austin City Limits and Coachella. Hosting a festival in the fall would have also made it difficult to turn around and do another festival the next April.
Moreover, the overall uncertainty surrounding the pandemic made the move to 2021 the best decision, Jhangiani says.
“When everything’s out of your hands, when you don’t have control of a situation, it is what it is,” he says. “Now that we’ve settled on a new date and know our path forward, the stress of it is gone, outside of the emotional stress of the situation — now, we’re able to just focus on staying healthy.”
