Reality is about to get a little fuzzier at the interactive Meow Wolf Grapevine’s “The Real Unreal” exhibit. In a world where time loops in the kitchen, portals hide in plain sight, and mystery lurks behind every neon-lit corner, something refreshingly familiar is set to arrive — dogs. Not interdimensional travelers or cosmic beings, just tail-wagging, face-licking, ready-to-love companions looking for a home.
On Saturday, Feb. 22, Meow Wolf Grapevine is cracking open a portal to something magical: second chances. In partnership with Grapevine Animal Services, they’re hosting “Portal Pets,” an "interdimensional" adoption event where a select group of adoptable dogs will take center stage inside the Matt King Mystery Center. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., these pups will look for new co-stars in their next great adventure — a forever home.
You don’t need a ticket to meet them. You don’t need to decipher any hidden messages or decode a bizarre artifact. All you need is an open heart, a valid ID, and a willingness to say, “Yeah, I think it’s time for a new best friend.” Adoptions are available on-site for guests 18 and older, with a $75 adoption fee per dog. One short questionnaire, and boom — your newest companion is ready to step through the final portal from shelter to couch.
And if you’re not in the market for a furry sidekick? There’s still a way to be part of the story. A donation station in the lobby will collect contributions for Grapevine Animal Services, and visitors can learn more about local pet adoption programs. Because at the end of the day, this isn’t just about art, or mystery, or mind-bending storytelling — it’s about connection. Sometimes, the most unexpected portal is the one that leads you to something (or someone) you didn’t even know you needed.
“Meow Wolf is no stranger to the unexplained, but a sudden appearance of adoptable dogs in our mystery center might be the most delightful twist yet,” Connor Gray, PR manager at Meow Wolf Grapevine, said. “These pups are looking for their next adventure, and we hope guests will answer that call.”
