Stage West Theatre had planned on beginning its season in September, but the effects of COVID-19 have changed the schedule.
Now, theatergoers will have to wait until Thanksgiving to see any productions at Stage West, and the play that was supposed to open the season, “Into the Breeches!”, won’t be put on until at least next summer.
Stage West originally planned to perform "Into the Breeches!" at Trinity Park Pavilion in September. However, due to the increase in COVID-19 case numbers, the 10-person limit on outdoor gatherings, the Actors’ Equity Association moratorium on contracts for live performances, and the costs associated with rapid testing and PPE, Stage West decided to postpone the season.
The theater won’t announce or sell tickets for the start of the season until “the virus is under control,” according to a press release.
Until then, “Virtually Stage West” is holding sessions called Cork & Brush Parties, in which visual artist Jen Schultes, who is also Stage West’s marketing director, will lead ticket holders in a landscape painting inspired by the Tandy Hills Natural Area.
Ticket buyers receive a box of art supplies with everything needed for the session, including an easel, brushes, paint, and a canvas. They also have the option to also purchase a bottle of wine. Participants can pick up these items at Stage West, mailed via USPS, or delivered by a staff member if the location is within 10 miles of the theater.
Executive producer Dana Schultes or managing director Mark Shum will also join the Zoom painting lessons, ready to answer any questions about Stage West.
The Cork & Brush events, which cost $50 per person, will be Aug. 22 and 29 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Aug. 23 and 30 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
