After 20 years of styling celebrities, C-suite executives, and general big wigs, Bonnie Thompson Smith has become quite the force within the fashion industry. Founder of The SWB Agency, a boutique wardrobe styling company with a global reach but a home base here in Fort Worth, Smith has secured numerous contracts with prestigious luxury brands and now offers services through innovative virtual platforms.
And for such a fashion aficionado, New York Fashion Week is the pièce de résistance of all events. This week of runway shows, workshops, and keynotes from notable designers kickstarts trends and shapes our very culture. So, naturally, Thompson attended the fashion event of all fashion events, which took place Feb. 6 – 11, and spotted some trends to help shape your closets for 2025. After all, when it comes to fashion, you don't wanna be left in the rearview.
Bonnie Thompson Smith's 5 Trends You Can Implement From NYFW 2025:
1. Textures: Boucle, large cable knits, distressed leathers. The typical fabrics have taken a higher high into soft and malleable textures. Seen in Simkhai boucle, Monse Maison soft sequins, and Lapointe edgy and furry outerwear.
2. Colors: Buttery yellows, icy blues, fire red, dusty pink, mocha brown (mousse).
3. Corp Core: Emerging new term to define the corporate core that is showing with brands. It’s the collaboration of structured menswear into feminine silhouettes. We love the strong shoulders and very nipped waist line and swishy pants and belting.
“This feels powerful. The everyday woman can take that oversized blazer and layer with confidence for day or night. The Sexy trouser pants paired back to a baby tee or sheer silky blouse.” – Bonnie Smith
4. Peplum Waist: Whether it's a feminine top or cinched up outerwear, the high waist definition is dominant on both the runway and the streets. See it on Siriano, Partow, Lapointe, or Simkhai.
“I love that we can define the hourglass shape and I plan to define it for all clients this coming season in any size, it can be fabulous and empowering” – Bonnie Smith
5. Ruffles and High-Buttoned Necklines:“With the current rise in Chloe and their flouncy ruffling, its only natural to notice our favorite contemporary labels having their ruffle moments in a big way, like Alice & Olivia. Shakespeare would be proud." – Bonnie Smith
