Market by Macy's at Fort Worth's WestBend development
Market by Macy's is a new concept for the iconic department store — a smaller, boutique-esque variant of its mall counterpart that first debuted in Southlake Town Square before opening a second location at Fort Worth's WestBend development.
Let's just say Macy's learned a thing or two from Fort Worth.
On Oct. 29, Market by Macy's will debut the renovation of its Southlake shop at 321 State St. In contrast to its previous look, which featured deeper, bolder tones, the renovation takes cues from the Fort Worth location with a brighter, more open vibe.
On the same day, the brand will open its third store at 6101 Long Prairie Road, Ste. 500, at Highlands of Flower Mound — a location also modeled after Fort Worth.
According to Macy's, the brand has "has maximized learnings" from its initial locations. The Southlake store opened in February 2020, while the Fort Worth store opened this past January. Market by Macy's shops are generally about 20,000 square feet, featuring a more curated selection of fashion, home goods, beauty products, and other gifts.
It's all part of the company's new Polaris strategy, which involved the closing of about 125 stores by 2023, as well as the testing of smaller-format stores in off-mall environments. The strategy appears to be paying off, according to Zacks Equity Research, which reports that company shares have gained 17.6% in the past three months compared with the industry’s rise of 9.1%.
“We are thrilled to continue to expand our new store format in the Dallas – Fort Worth community, giving customers access to a unique shopping experience,” Marc Mastronardi, chief stores officer of Macy’s, said in a statement. “Market by Macy’s will focus on discovery and convenience for our customers, while offering curated Macy’s merchandise with a local flair.”
