The Amon G. Carter Jr. Exhibits Hall at Will Rogers Coliseum was transformed into Japan for Jewel Charity’s 68th annual Ball. This year’s attendees were surrounded by cherry blossom trees, illuminated lanterns, a koi pond design and koi pond bars with bonsai trees in the center.
Attendees for this event experienced women dressed as geishas handing out champagne upon their arrival. Bartenders were also dressed in Japanese attire to inspire the illusion of the Far East. Plus, there was a gong to signal people to take their seats for dinner, with a performance of traditional Japanese drums as dinner entertainment. The appetizers and main dinner were provided by star chef Wolfgang Puck.
Post dinner entertainment was handled by none other than Grammy nominated funk legends Kool and The Gang who rocked one of two dance floors available at the event. The official jeweler for this event was Collections Jewelry, who set up an entire shopping area in the middle of the ball. Collections also gave out jewelry boxes with cherry blossoms on them to each attendee as a favor with the event details in gold.
Since its inception in 1954, Jewel Charity has raised over $79 million for Cook Children's Hospital. According to its website, Jewel Charity raises over $400,000 annually in auction and raffle ticket sales. Businesses donate auction items and chance ticket prizes, which include luxury cars, fine jewelry and trips abroad.
