Longtime besties Tony Green and Henry Abuto got the idea to launch a podcast, in part, after a particularly extensive conversation about Mariah Carey.
"There was specifically one time in 2018. Tony and I were on the phone ... and we were talking about Mariah Carey," Abuto says. "We had like, an hour-and-a-half-long conversation about Mariah Carey, her career and her unmatched level ... and we were like, 'Why was that not recorded?'"
But they're changing that now. Abuto (chef and founder of catering company ByWasonga) and Green (host of online talk show "Hello, I'm Tony Green" and the "Tony Green on the Scene" segment of NBC 5's "Texas Today") launched a podcast Monday — "Tony & Henry: On the Same Page."
The show covers everything from arts and culture to local entrepreneurship and politics. Future episodes will feature special guests; PR guru Holland Sanders and entrepreneur Jonathan Morris, for example, have already agreed to participate.
But no matter the topic, Green says each episode rides on a recurring theme — to get "on the same page," even on the issues in which he and Abuto don't see eye to eye.
"Even when we disagree, hopefully we get on the same page — that's the culmination of what our friendship is," Green says.
Abuto concurs. "People always say 'don't work with friends' or 'don't mix business with friends,' but for me, if you have the right friends, then you can absolutely do this," he says.
Green and Abuto worked with Fort Worth studio Spaceway Productions to record the first episode, which is now streaming on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Audible, and other platforms. The two also have a live show and ByWasonga brunch scheduled for Feb. 7 at Tulips, the new music venue that opened at 112 St. Louis Ave.
