From the legacy of the vaquero to the art, food, and culture that shape the city's modern identity, Fort Worth's Hispanic roots run deep. Here are a few ways the city is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, which kicks off Wednesday and runs through Oct. 15.
An Evening With Carlos Santos, Sept. 16
Following a special screening of the Netflix series, "Gentefied," audiences will get a chance to chat one-on-one with one of the show's stars — Puerto Rican actor Carlos Santos. An RSVP is required.
More information is available here.
México en La Sangre, Sept. 18
México en La Sangre — that is, "Mexico in our blood" — will feature a parade, food, and music all day out at the Fort Worth Stockyards Historic District. A two-hour equestrian show will also take place at Cowtown Coliseum.
More info here.
Kimbell Art Museum, Sept. 19 – Oct. 10
The Kimbell has several kid-friendly events planned throughout the month, including crafts, a film series, and virtual story times. The first of these takes place Sunday, when families are invited to come to the museum and create patterned pendants, as well as view the documentary, "Breaking the Maya Code: Discovering Remnants of the Mayans."

Hecho en Fort Worth, Sept. 25
Celebrating minority-owned small businesses in the city, the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber's annual gala is set to take place at the Fort Worth Convention Center. The event includes an award ceremony for business leaders of the year and live music by Havana NRG.

Fort Worth Botanic Garden, Oct. 1 – Nov. 7
One of the biggest Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations is taking place at the Botanic Garden, which is hosting events every weekend all the way through Nov. 7. The lineup includes multiple parties ranging from artisan markets to a taco festival — plus a Day of the Dead Street Party where attendees are encouraged to dress in skull costumes.

Vaquero Gathering, Oct. 8 – 10
The American Paint Horse Association is bringing the first-ever Vaquero Gathering to the Fort Worth Stockyards, featuring horsemanship clinics, three horse show performances at Cowtown Coliseum, and a Vaquero (Mexican) Food Truck Competition.

Fort Worth Opera, Oct. 9 – 10
Fort Worth Opera has two events celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month — Entre Amigos, a one-night-only opera concert followed by a DJ-led dance party at Gallery of Artes de la Rosa on Oct. 9, as well as two performances of "Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World" taking place Oct. 9 – 10 at the Botanic Garden.

Clamato Michelada Festival, Oct. 10
Taking place at General Worth Square at 900 Main St., this free downtown festival will offer food, bands, live-streaming of the Dallas Cowboys game — and yes, plenty of micheladas to consume.
About 35% of Fort Worth's population identifies as Hispanic, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
