Crystal Springs Hideaway
A 100-year-old property located in Fort Worth’s emerging River Oaks District is being transformed into a laid-back beer and wine garden.
Crystal Springs Hideaway, a concept created by owners JD Granger and his wife Shanna, is already knee-deep in the renovation process at 113 Roberts Cut Off Rd. This new Texas Beer and Wine Garden will feature 25+ draft beers, burgers, and cocktails, as well as unique wine selections, and a cheese and charcuterie shoppe.
The digs on this historic property are raw and authentic, with original hardwood floors and shiplap in the bungalow. Also, the 150-year-old cottonwoods offer a glimpse of a time long forgotten. All of the renovations on this historic property were carefully executed so as to preserve the history of the site.
Joining the Grangers on this new endeavor is Big Kat Burger, a popular food truck owned and operated by three longtime friends, Mike Sugg, Bryce Blackburn, and Christopher Chadwick.
Together, this trio brings 30 years of culinary experience along with a reputation for making some of the city’s best burgers. Big Kat Burger will oversee the menu at Crystal Springs Hideaway, according to a release.
Operating out of a food truck since 2017, Big Kat has built a hefty Fort Worth following at its spot on South Main Street. Co-owners Sugg and Blackburn have built a reputation for taking pride in their high quality, made from scratch, approach to building a menu. Besides offering customers award-winning burgers and hand cut fries, Big Kat will also offer salads, appetizers and other handhelds and menu specials depending on the day and or season.

“Our ultimate goal has been to open a brick and mortar, and we felt Crystal Springs Hideaway was the perfect fit to make that jump,” Sugg said. “It allows us to expand our mission to bring the food that we love so much to even more people.”
Speaking of food we all love, Crystal Springs will also have a wine, cheese, and charcuterie shoppe that will offer customers a “Build-Your-Own” cheese and charcuterie board option. Guests are invited to create their favorite pairings and then find a nice quiet spot to relax and enjoy their choices in. Overseeing this section of Crytal Springs is Nonna Tata kitchen manager Kelly Burton.
Estimated time of completion for this new Cowtown hangout spot is this fall, with an exact date announcement just around the corner.
“Over the years, I feel like our beloved Fort Worth joints have faded away. But then I came across this great 100-year-old bungalow with a stone carriage house and water tower – nestled smack-dab in the middle of a neighborhood. I immediately knew this is the kind of place people miss and want to hang out at,” JD said. “It has the character for our vision and is the perfect neighborhood to do it in. It’s casual. It’s comfortable. And it will be an affordable place to enjoy drinks with friends and grab a bite to eat.”
