Del Campo Empanadas
In a city where Argentinian food is a rarity, one empanada shop is looking to give North Fort Worth a taste of authentic, baked goodies.
Del Campo Empanadas will celebrate its grand opening Wednesday at 10724 N. Beach St. The family-owned shop will offer both sweet and savory varieties, including Argentine-style beef, chicken, ham and cheese, and Banutella (banana and Nutella). There will also be basket-style empanadas, with flavors ranging from cheeseburger chimichurri to caprese.
"In Argentina, empanadas are such a big thing; they're our staple dish," says Rebecca Gigante, who helps run the shop alongside parents Andrea Cacho and Leo Gigante.
The family, which hails from Buenos Aires, first began making empanadas for family and friends. As popularity grew through word of mouth, the family decided to start taking the venture more seriously.
"Cooking is [my mom's] passion," Rebecca Gigante says. "She puts her heart and soul into cooking. I think that's the tradeoff to a lot of people. They felt it, they tasted it, and they saw it. That's when we decided maybe we should just make it a business."
The storefront softly opened in April for curbside pickup and delivery only, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. When the store opens Wednesday, it will allow customers to walk in and pick from the display case, but will limit capacity to 25%.
Del Campo Empanadas will be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
