Jason Kindig, our magazine's photographer, and I recently had our food shoot for the June issue and it was so much fun. Three local rib experts (not professional chefs or restaurant owners, just everyday cooks) schlepped racks of their masterpiece ribs to my front yard where we were set up with cameras. One of them, Pat Craine, was generous and gracious enough to pull his one-of-a-kind smoker over, which added even more interest and fun. Pat designed this smoker 20 years ago and as far as Jason and I could tell it's just about perfect. Big smoke box, two grill ovens and even a regular oven where Pat bakes off biscuits and cobblers.
I love this shot of Pat and Jason getting into those fabulous ribs in front of Pat's fabulous smoker. It's not often we catch Jason in FRONT of the camera!
It's not only the glorious food that makes our photo shoots so much fun - it's also the people. Here is a shot of our three rib masters, visiting in my front yard while Jason and I set up for the next photo. Steve Reeves, who tapes the videos for the magazine's TV show (FYI Fort Worth) is busy checking his messages to find out where he has to run off to next.
The camera is ready and I quickly brush on a little juice to make Terry Moon's ribs shine for the photo.
You are going to love all of these delicious rib recipes - coming in June!
