Black Bear Diner
Some of us — cough, present company included, cough — sometimes forget there’s Fort Worth life beyond the loop, especially up north in the Alliance area, where new housing and retail developments (hello, H-E-B) are going up quicker than we can finish this sentence. As such, nearly a dozen new breakfast spots have opened in this area of Fort Worth over the past few years. If we had more pages and bigger stomachs, we’d devote more ink to them. But for now, five faves:
360 Brunch House (9560 Feather Grass Lane): Brunch all day, every day, with dishes like lamb chops and waffles, a lobster avocado Benedict, and whiskey cakes made with sautéed apples tossed in a whiskey sauce and set aflame tableside. 360brunchhouse.com
Black Bear Diner (9501 N. Freeway): Many of the new spots in north Fort Worth are heavy on brunch items. This chain focuses primarily on straightforward, old-school breakfast dishes, like chicken-fried steak and eggs, omelets, and meat and egg combos. blackbeardiner.com
First Watch (3001 Heritage Trace Parkway): A chain that doesn’t necessarily act like a chain, as its menu often changes with the seasons. Summer offerings include shishito brisket hash, carnitas breakfast quesadillas, and strawberry tres leches French toast. There’s also a location at 6333 Camp Bowie Blvd., firstwatch.com
Hash Kitchen (3240 Tracewood Way, Ste. 100): Recent arrival takes brunch and breakfast to a far, far away level, with waaaay over the top dishes like birria hash, a chile relleno benedict, and banana split French toast. hashkitchen.com
Our Brunch Spot (12420 Timberland Blvd., Ste. 400): No one can ever blame north Fort Worthians of not digging brunch. This place crams ‘em in. All of your brunch/breakfast essentials are here — extravagant pancakes and waffles, meaty skillets, a dozen omelets, with better prices than other similar restaurants. ourbrunchspot.net
