Jon Bonnell took to social media this a.m. to announce the third location of Buffalo Bros, a pizza and wings joint that first opened next to TCU, is under construction in Old Town Burleson.
Known as one of the best spots in town for taking in a game, Bonnell’s Facebook post went on to say the new location is set to open by football season.
According to a Fort Worth Star-Telegram piece by culinary scoop artist Bud Kennedy, the new restaurant will take over the spot previously occupied by Heim Barbecue at 139 W. Ellison St.
This marks the second headline-worthy appearance for Buffalo Bros in a week. University Pub, a long-time TCU-area hangout, announced last Sunday that they’ll be serving their last beer May 18. The 44-year-old landmark bar, which is currently situated next to the original Buffalo Bros, will become the sight of a Buffalo Bros expansion. According to Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Bonnell rented the space when it became available.
The first Buffalo Bros opened off University Drive in 2007 followed by a second location opening in downtown’s Sundance Square in 2019.
Bonnell has been a heavy hitter in the Fort Worth restaurant scene since opening Bonnell’s Fine Texas Cuisine in 2001. The student-friendly Buffalo Bros followed in 2007 and Waters Restaurant, a seafood concept off Main Street, opened in 2013. In 2022, as an homage to Jon Meyerson’s once popular spot off University Drive, Bonnell opened Jon’s Grille, a burger and barbecue spot at 2905 W. Berry St.
The chef also recently appeared as one of Fort Worth’s culinary pioneers in the latest issue of Fort Worth Magazine. You can read the article by Malcolm Mayhew here.
