The chef and owner of Magnolia Avenue’s Fixture - Kitchen and Social Lounge and the new Ben's Triple B on Rosedale Street will be featured again at 7 p.m. Thursday on Food Network's hit show “Chopped,” in case you missed when it first aired July 2.
Watch parties will be held at both spots starting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, though Merritt will be hanging at Fixture. Some of the items he prepared on the show will be served up, including a ketchup cake with mustard icing and graham cracker and milk ice cream — all alongside extended happy hours.
The “Chopped” episode is titled "Culinary Fireworks," and it focuses on summertime and patriotic foods.
"A clever keg and a new spin on a fair favorite kick off the fun in the first round," the website says. "Then, the bounty of the second basket includes a cowboy's dream ingredient and some colorful kabobs. And there's a bombshell surprise in the dessert basket − can the chefs successfully create something delicious to complete the meal?"
Spoiler alert: Merritt did win!
Fans have been rooting for Merritt for years. His new concept, Ben’s Triple B, features biscuits, burgers, and beer. Across from Texas Wesleyan University, the project is part of the "Rosedale Renaissance.”
One of the other three competitors on this episode might be another familiar face. Kalen Jane Morgenstern was a contestant on “Hell's Kitchen” before taking the reins of the former Tillman's Roadhouse and subsequent Market + Pantry in Crockett Row. She also worked on the culinary team at the short-lived Protein Fit Kitchen in Southlake before moving to Germany.
