Crystal Springs Hideaway
Crystal Springs Hideaway is now welcoming early risers, serving morning coffee from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., Tuesday through Sunday. The updated hours bring a classic coffee menu to the River District, including velvety lattes, bold Americanos, and expertly brewed espresso crafted from a custom blend roasted exclusively for the shop.
The 100-year-old bungalow, run by JD and Shanna Granger, will mark one year since its latest transformation in January. A fast neighborhood favorite, the Hideaway offers a laid-back atmosphere perfect for gathering with friends, enjoying a drink, or letting your dog stretch in the fresh air. With the new morning hours, it has become an inviting spot to ease into the day with coffee and conversation before heading to work.

Crystal Springs Hideaway isn’t just about what’s new — it’s also a nod to what came before. Housed in a century-old bungalow and stone carriage house, the venue honors its roots. Original shiplap walls and hardwood floors tell stories of a bygone era, while the name itself pays tribute to the Crystal Springs Dance Pavilion, a 1920s hotspot where Western swing music found its footing. But with the new coffee bar and morning hours, the Grangers may be starting a new tradition of their own.
On the new menu, the Hideaway serves a locally roasted custom blend — a smooth-bodied coffee with hints of berry and chocolate. Customers can customize their drinks with house-made syrups, including seasonal flavors. Baristas also craft cortados, macchiatos, cappuccinos, and offer light bites like ham and Swiss, almond, chocolate, and classic croissants.
The coffee comes from three standout farms: Guatemala’s Finca San Antonio, Honduras’s Café Amor y Fe, and Ethiopia’s Guji Shawana Shakiso. Each brings its own distinctive flavor to the smooth-bodied blend that defines the Hideaway experience.
Chef Kelly Burton, formerly of Fort Worth’s Nonna Tata, shepherds the locally roasted blend with the same care she brought to cheese and charcuterie. Head barista Jackson Davis, with years of experience at Ascension Coffee, designed the menu to meet the neighborhood’s need for consistent, high-quality morning coffee. Together, they’ve crafted drinks that are both approachable and deliberate — the kind that make stopping by feel like a small ritual.
Morning at the Hideaway is easy. Indoors or on the covered patio, the space is quiet enough for conversation, work, or simply soaking in the shade. Dogs nap at their owners’ feet. Friends gather over cups of coffee that taste like they were made just for the neighborhood.
“The coffee at Crystal Springs Hideaway stays true to form,” says JD Granger. “The Hideaway is known as a place that makes you comfortable. A place made for the neighborhood. A place where customers are friends. No gimmicks. Just good times and community.”
