Breakfast is smokin’ Tuesday through Saturday at Derek Allan’s Texas Barbecue on Eighth Avenue.
The new Southside BBQ sensation is offering breakfast tacos and plates from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. using its crave-worthy smoked wagyu brisket and sausage. Owner Derek Crudgington says the expansion into breakfast barbecue just made sense for them.
“It’s my favorite meal,” Crudgington says. “We are already here and already have the product.”
Tacos come with smoked wagyu brisket, sausage or pork, egg, and cheese. Breakfast plates include a quarter-pound of smoked wagyu brisket, sausage, or turkey with two eggs and toast.
Early hours are no excuse to skimp on the integrity of food for Crudgington and his wife, Brittany. They use a special breakfast blend of their signature Dirty Dalmatian rub, make fresh tortillas in-house, use a local salsa and their own jalapeño jam.
The new dining option is still in a developing phase, and Crudgington says the menu is subject to change. Offerings are handwritten on a piece of butcher-paper and posted near the register.
“We are getting a feel for what everyone likes and then going from there,” Crudgington says.
Perhaps the best thing about Derek Allan’s new breakfast menu are the high-quality ingredients— attention to detail makes dining at this local gem a coveted experience. Crudgington says the breakfast diners will always get fed.
