There are moments in life when the universe speaks to you. Sometimes, it’s a song on the radio that hits at just the right time. Other times, it’s a marshmallow candy that decides to reinvent itself in a way no one saw coming. And today, my friends, it’s the latter.
No offense to the Easter Bunny or that pile of chocolate that inevitably melts in the sun, but Peeps are kind of the true rock stars of the season. The marshmallow confection that once existed solely as tiny yellow chicks created in 1953 has spent the past seven decades on a wild ride of reinvention. And just when you thought you had Peeps figured out — bam! They go and drop a Dr Pepper-flavored version that was very popular last year.
Let’s talk about that for a second. Dr Pepper, the sweet, mysterious soda that once claimed to be an anytime meal replacement (breakfast of champions at 10 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m.), has taken over the marshmallow kingdom. And, of course, fans went absolutely nuts for it. The result? A triumphant return in 2025. If you missed out last year, don’t make the same mistake twice. Grab them while you can.
But wait, there’s more. Peeps isn’t just coasting on past successes; they’re going full arena-rock encore with a whole new lineup of flavors, according to the brand’s website. We’re talking Rice Krispies Treats, Icee Blue Raspberry, Sour Strawberry, and Delights S’more Graham Cracker. It’s a sugar-fueled dream sequence, and we’re all just lucky to be living in it.
Caitlin Servian, brand manager for Peeps, summed it up best in an article by The Pioneer Woman last year: “Having been a cherished part of family traditions and festivities for over seven decades, the Peeps brand is so excited to help families create even more moments of sweetness with the launch of our 2024 Easter Marshmallow offerings.” That’s corporate speak for: ‘We know you love these, and we’re just giving the people what they want.’
And because Peeps isn’t done surprising us, they’ve also teamed up with Breyers to create something that sounds too good to be true: Peeps Cookies and Cream-Flavored Marshmallow Chicks. Inspired by Breyers’ classic ice cream, this new creation combines chocolatey cookie bits with creamy vanilla and the unmistakable chew of a Peeps marshmallow.
So, while the world keeps spinning and the seasons keep changing, one thing remains certain: Peeps will continue pushing the boundaries of what an Easter treat can be. Whether it’s Dr Pepper, cookies and cream, or some other unexpected collaboration waiting in the wings, they’re here to make Easter baskets, and our sugar highs, legendary.
And honestly? We’re here for it.
