As the end of the year gets closer every day, we come upon the five-month countdown until the inaugural Fort Worth Food + Wine Festival. It seems as if the pages fly off the calendar a lot quicker than I can keep up with at this point. When this magical journey began over two years ago, my biggest fear was the obvious concern that nobody would have any interest in a food and wine festival in Fort Worth and even more so, that nobody would want to assist putting one together. I couldn’t have been more wrong. When word leaked about the festival, my email was flooded with offers of assistance from many people who were excited about the possibility of a festival. This week, we put the finishing touches on the volunteer forms, and I am excited to reach out to a lot of those wonderful people and let them know that now is the time to fill out their form to become an “Official Volunteer” for the FWFWF.
Over the next few weeks, I am going to use the blog to highlight some of those who have put forth a tremendous amount of time behind the scenes to help get the festival started. We have been blessed as an organization to have many different talented people leading our committees, and I think it's only fair that people get a chance to “meet” them. They are the heart and soul of this movement of volunteers all working together to do something great for this city.
Lastly, I encourage you to buy tickets for an event that the Fort Worth Food + Wine Festival is participating in on Nov. 3. Chefs for Farmers is an event that seeks to highlight some of the area’s best chefs and raise awareness for local farmers and artisans. I will be there along with Molly McCook from Ellerbe’s, serving up some of her wonderful food and spreading the word about FWFWF. “Twenty at the Tower” chefs, Andre Natera, Graham Dodds, Scott Gottlich, Jeff Harris, Blaine Staniford, and CFF founder Matt McCallister will all be there along with a ton of talent.
