Dwell Coffee & Biscuits
Dwell Coffee and Biscuits, a Burleson-based coffee shop that opened its second location in an old bank off University Drive in 2019, has closed shop. But, in a quick change of hands, it looks like TCU students coming back for the fall semester won’t have to suffer without their daily lattes; Overflow Coffee Co., a Hillsboro-based coffeehouse, has already started moving into what is now the old Dwell space.
In a strange parallel, Overflow, similar to Dwell in 2019, will be opening their second location in the lobby of the glass-clad building. Both coffee shops announced the move Aug. 1 via social media.
According to Dwell’s social media post, their move and the new leasing of the space to Overflow happened on the same day. Wishing to downsize and focus on family, Dwell’s owners announced Monday that they would be closing on Tuesday. In addition to keeping their Burleson location, the pair also own the popular Morgan Ice Cream on South Main.
“While we are at peace with this decision, we are still sad,” the post read. “We have loved serving Fort Worth and the fine TCU folk. We learned and grew so much with this shop and will forever cherish our time here!”
The comments were a mix of bittersweet understanding and excitement for the new coffee shop that will take up residence shortly. It does appear both shops properly cater to the overcaffeinated if somewhat bougie Gen Zer.
However, it does appear that the swiftness with which this transition is happening caught the Dwell owners a little off guard.
“We are shocked at how fast this transition has happened. We didn’t even know it was officially moving forward until today … blindsided, actually,” the post from Dwell’s owner’s continued. “So please, forgive our last, literal, second notice as we’ve only had a few hours to process this.”
Overflow signed the leasing contract to move into the old Dwell location on Monday, Aug. 1.
“Dwell Fort Worth near TCU has officially become our second location,” Overflow Coffee Co. shared in their announcement post Aug. 1. “We are so excited to serve this city!”
