This September would have marked the 34th anniversary of GrapeFest, the largest wine festival in the Southwest held in Grapevine’s Historic Main Street District, but in order to stem the spread of COVID-19 the event has been canceled.
“We made the difficult decision to cancel the festival, citing concerns for the safety of attendees, volunteers, staff, sponsors, and vendors,” Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Paul W. McCallum said in a statement.
The family-friendly festival normally attracts 260,000 visitors from around the world looking to sample premium Texas wines and champagne while enjoying live entertainment and food. Guests of the event participate in the People’s Choice Wine Tasting Classic, the largest consumer judged wine competition in the U.S.
But wine enthusiasts will now have to wait until 2021 to enjoy the festival’s offerings.
“We want to thank our volunteers, 38 civic and service charitable organizations, sponsors, and vendors,” GrapeFest Co-Chairpersons Steve and Maggie Haley said in a statement. “We now must look forward to GrapeFest 2021.”
