GrapeFest, Grapevine's signature wine festival, takes place every year in its historic downtown.
This is the time of year Grapevine tends to, you know, wine down.
GrapeFest kicks off Thursday and lasts through Sunday at Historic Downtown Grapevine, with the theme, "Texas Wine. Come and Take It!" The annual festival, in its 35th year, promises a showcase of wines from both Texas and guest wineries from South Australia’s Barossa Valley and California’s Napa Valley.
The consumer-judged People's Choice Wine Tasting Classic also returns, along with a GrapeStomp (think "I Love Lucy"), champagne cork shooting contest, and plenty of tasting opportunities.
Of course, if wine isn't your thing, the festival also features food, live music and entertainment, a carnival midway, and artisan vendors. A kid-friendly FunZone will have activities from LEGOLAND Discovery Center, SEA LIFE Grapevine Aquarium, Grapevine Escape’s Agency Phone Booth, and Corky’s Gaming Bistro.
A couple homages to history will also take place: On Saturday, Grapevine will unveil a new public artwork, "Peace Circle," a bronze sculptural piece depicting Republic of Texas president Sam Houston meeting with 10 native chiefs/captains on the Grape Vine Prairie in 1843. The work is located at Peace Plaza at Grapevine Main Station.
Additionally, the public is invited to view the Remembering Our Fallen Photographic War Memorial between Main and East College streets, honoring military members who died after 9/11.
Festival hours are 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Sunday. Thursday is the only day attendees can get in for free.
