From Oklahoma to Texas, Hooker’s Grill carries on a tradition over a century old. Now, that tradition will be shared in a second location.
After success seen in the Fort Worth Stockyards, Hooker’s Grill was invited to open a second location in the Food Hall at Crockett Row.
Opening sometime toward the end of July, the second location of Hooker’s Grill will have the same old-fashioned atmosphere as its original storefront with just a few differences. At the second location, you’ve got the option of sitting indoors rather than having to brave the sweltering Texas heat this summer.
The new location will have a full bar and extended hours to boot. While the Stockyards location is only open Wednesday through Sunday, the new location will be open seven days a week. Hours are 11 a.m to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Hooker’s Grill is best known for its fried-onion burger, an Oklahoma staple food brought to Texas by Hooker’s Grill owner Ruth Hooker. With onions, mustard, pickles, and Hereford beef, the fried-onion burger is a classic dating back to the 1920s. “The fried-onion burger is to Oklahoma what Whataburger is to Texas,” Hooker says.
In its two years of business, Hooker’s Grill has grown to be a popular burger spot in Fort Worth, and Hooker says she is proud to have been invited to open another location after such a short time of being in business. As a female, Native-American owned restaurant, Hooker says her up-and-coming business is something to hang her hat on.
Hooker makes it clear that her restaurant does not serve to bring new burgers to customers, but rather to maintain the old-school burger that has been around for more than a century.
“I feel like I’m carrying on a tradition,” Hooker says, “and it’s something I‘m proud of to share with other people.”
