Those potent margaritas on West Magnolia Avenue aren’t going anywhere.
Yucatan Taco Stand officially reopened over the weekend after being shut down last week by Fort Worth health inspectors. Management posted on Facebook that the building’s been professionally cleaned and sanitized, and that necessary maintenance has been completed. Those who celebrated the taco joint’s revival enjoyed happy hour pricing all day Saturday and Sunday, too.
“We sincerely apologize for falling short of giving you the quality, product, and service you deserve,” a post of the restaurant’s Facebook page reads. “We are committed to [restructuring], [rebuilding], and becoming stronger than ever. Thank you for your loyalty!”
The eatery at 909 W. Magnolia Ave. was handed 34 demerits in a health inspection Aug. 7 conducted by the City of Fort Worth. The restaurant’s report, public on the city website, detailed several health hazards throughout the establishment. But according to Yucatan management, professional cleaners will be coming once a month.
"We're going through everything with a fine-tooth comb," says Athena Navarro Hinkhouse, one of the co-owners. Hinkhouse says the entire staff went through training during the stint the restaurant was closed.
Hundreds of Fort Worthians responded to Yucatan’s announcement on social media, expressing a mixture of gratitude and wariness. One commenter actually shared a photo of four Yucatan faithful wearing shirts chiding the city health department for handing out 34 demerits.
Yucatan Taco Stand has locations in The Woodlands, Oklahoma City, and Belize.
