In an emotional Facebook post Tuesday, Vance Martin, founder of the beloved Lili’s Bistro on Magnolia Avenue, announced he will retire at the end of the month after nearly five decades in the food and beverage industry.
“May 31, 2025, will be the last day of my fortunate and fabulous career,” Martin wrote in release on Facebook. “It’s time to celebrate my retirement!”
Martin’s career spans an impressive 47 years, including 37 years as a restaurant owner and 18 years at the helm of Lili’s Bistro, which has become a Magnolia Avenue staple. In his farewell, he assured customers that he is working closely with new buyers to maintain the brand’s success and legacy.
“To my customers and friends: it was always our intent to treat our guests like friends. I think overall, we all did a great job at that — it’s incredible to think about how many lasting friendships we’ve made over the years,” Martin shared.
He credited his parents and family for giving him the foundation to navigate the “crazy business” and paid heartfelt tribute to key members of his staff. Longtime team members Tina D., Fernando, and Amanda R. received special mentions for their years of dedication — 22, 17, and 14 years respectively.
Martin reflected warmly on the journey: “This is a monumental ‘next step’ in my journey, and I am truly excited and happy to move forward (with some sadness attached). But I learned a long time ago, never say never.”
Founded and named in honor of his daughter, Lili’s Bistro has been celebrated for its welcoming atmosphere, comfort food with a twist, and enduring community spirit.
Martin ended his post with a simple but powerful thank you: “Thanks for taking this remarkable journey with me.”
For now, fans of Lili’s Bistro still have a few more weeks to enjoy a meal under Martin’s leadership.
"On to the thank yous and goodbyes," he continued. "It’s been one helluva ride! The people who have helped me are far too numerous to list. However, my parents are first on the list for giving me the wherewithal to navigate this crazy business for 47 years, and my entire family, your support has been paramount. I am so thankful for having the privilege to name my restaurant after my daughter."
