Black Forest Cake Beer
Martin House Brewing Company struck gold with the response to their Best Maid Pickle beer this summer, and they’re now bringing another beloved Fort Worth brand to a can near you.
The Swiss Pastry Shop has been turning out their famous Black Forest Cake for over 40 years ― known locally as the “uncake” being flourless and gluten free. And some might even say it’s rumored to have special healing properties … OK, maybe that’s just me.
Enter Martin House's new collaboration brew: Black Forest Cake beer. It will be on tap and available to-go in four-packs for $16 at a launch party from 4 to 10 p.m Nov. 11.
Its popularity never wanes. In fact, the newly opened Zoli’s Pizza and Cow Tipping Creamery on Hulen Street introduced its signature Stacker (their version of a layered sundae) as another nod to the cake’s local fame. The Stacker features vanilla or chocolate soft serve ice cream (or a swirl of both), stacked with layers of black forest cake chunks, house-made hot fudge, chocolate sprinkles, and whipped cream.
Hans Muller and the Swiss Pastry Shop crew will provide the first 200 guests at the launch party with a sample of their delicious Black Forest Cake to compliment beer purchases.
“We are very excited to turn this beloved Fort Worth creation into a beer,” Martin House says. “This will not be a stout, but rather a ‘cake’ ale with a lighter-colored body and full of flavor.”
The sweeter the beer, the higher its alcohol content. So the Black Forest Cake rings in at a hefty 10 percent. They describe it as an Imperial Cake Ale brewed with vanilla, almond flour, sweet cream, and a touch of cocoa powder. Unlike their Best Maid Pickle beer, which was distributed throughout the state of Texas, the Black Forest Cake beer will not be in distribution, so the only place to get it is in the Martin House taproom and their Riverside Lounge.
