When a new location of Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop opened in Arlington in January, it begged the question.
When and where would the first Fort Worth location be opening?
The answer — Ridglea Village, in a 1,198-square-foot spot at 6040 Camp Bowie Blvd. No word yet on the opening date.
Scott and Meredith Layton founded the company in 2014 in Knoxville, Tennessee, and shops have been popping up across the south ever since. Buttermilk Sky already has Texas locations in Midland, Allen, Colleyville, Frisco, Mansfield and, of course, Arlington. Other new stores on the horizon will land in Cedar Hill, Flower Mound and Plano in coming months.
Pies are available in the standard 9-inch size, a personal 4-inch pie or in the 2-inch bite-size. Favorite flavors include the custard-style buttermilk pie (for which the company is named) and a tricked-out pecan pie called the I-40, with added chocolate chips and shredded coconut.
Ridglea Village, home to longtime tenants La Madeleine and Haltom's Jewelers, also nabbed another Chicken Salad Chick location as well, located at 6100 Camp Bowie Blvd.
Like Buttermilk Sky, Chicken Salad Chick is sweeping the south with 123 locations and counting. The nearest shop is in North Fort Worth on Tehama Parkway. Stacy Brown founded the company in 2008 in Auburn, Alabama. The owner and operator of Chicken Salad Chick franchises in north Texas is John Schissler. Plans are in the works to bring another store to Elk Crossing in Burleson as well in coming months.
The chicken salads on the menu are varied, but all are from-scratch recipes. Customers can choose their flavor and enjoy it as a scoop or on a sandwich, paired with a side or a cup of soup. Other Southern favorites on the Chicken Salad Chick menu include pimento cheese and egg salad.
