Pro Bull Rider Ezekiel Mitchell
Professional bull rider Ezekiel “Blue” Mitchell is taking another step towards his goal of becoming the next Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This week marks a new chapter in Mitchell’s career, with him taking on the role of the “Tip of the Cap” campaign spokesperson for the TX Whiskey brand.
Mitchell, who is a member of the Austin Gamblers PBR rodeo team, is the first person to get this honor. According to a press release, the “Tip of the Cap” campaign spotlights Texan people, culture, and causes by partnering with inspirational Texan heroes.
That moniker seems to fit Mitchell too. Last season, which was the PBR Teams inaugural run, Mitchell showed great resilience both in and out of the bucking chutes. In fact, Mitchell would find a newfound inspiration in his riding after he learned his cousin and friend Ouncie Mitchell died while he was on the road with the Gamblers. This emotional night and ride were all captured on Prime Video’s eight-part series titled “The Ride.” Mitchell was one of a handful of riders and coaches to grace the screen in this no-holds-bar series, which gave audiences a glimpse of what it’s like behind the scenes of this new PBR Teams format.
Mitchell picked up his love for cowboying growing up between Baytown and Rockdale, Texas. As time progressed, so did Mitchell’s saddle skills, which eventually landed him in the conversation as one of the nation’s best bull riders.
In 2022, Mitchell along with fellow teammate Dakota Louis, joined the roster of the Austin Gamblers as pioneers of a new rodeo team sport concept. To date, Mitchell has eight PBR wins and 46 Top 10s over the last four years, which also includes 30 Unleash the Beast Top 10s.
TX Whiskey
“His story embodies everything it means to be Texan – chasing down a dream and doing things his way with his ethos, ‘don’t take no for an answer,’” a release read.
To commemorate this new launch, TX Whiskey will be offering limited-edition caps inspired by Mitchell’s blue chaps that can be found on bottles of TX Blended Whiskey.
"We're incredibly excited to unveil our 'Tip of the Cap' campaign alongside professional bull rider Ezekiel 'Blue' Mitchell,” says Pernod Ricard Sr. brand manager Ronald Harrison. “This initiative is a celebration of all things Texan – its people, culture, and community causes – as we join forces with inspirational figures like Ezekiel. His journey from small-town Texas to the pinnacle of bull riding embodies the Texan spirit of resilience and determination. Through our limited-edition caps, crafted from Ezekiel's iconic blue chaps, we're honoring his cowboy legacy and inviting everyone to raise a glass to a true Lone Star icon."
And although Mitchell is riding on a high given his recent notoriety, he says he aims to become the first Black cowboy to win a bull riding world title in more than four decades.
“As a Texan, it was a natural fit to partner with TX Whiskey for the 'Tip of the Cap' campaign,” Mitchell says. “Both my career as a bull rider and this iconic brand celebrates the roots, resilience, and unwavering spirit of being a true cowboy. I’m proud to honor the authentic Texan values that are the foundation of my riding ethos, TX Whiskey, and our great state.”
Ezekiel’s collectable caps will be available in all outlets where TX Blended Whiskey is sold.
