Join us for the opening reception of "Campsite: Tales We Tell in the Dark" by Alli Rogers Andreen on Nov. 14, 2024 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m at the Carillon Gallery (SPAC 1103A). Exhibition on display from November 14 - December 12, 2024.
Campsite: Tales We Tell in the Dark explores the intersection of nostalgia, suburban solitude, and the timeless human need for connection through storytelling. This immersive installation recreates the glow and ambiance of a fictional backyard campsite, inviting visitors to step into a space where memories of childhood play and modern suburban life converge. Abstracted tent sculptures, ethereal nocturne drawings, and a glowing handmade paper campfire set the scene, accompanied by the soft, familiar sounds of a suburban evening. The installation encourages visitors to co-create folktales using fragments of southwestern tall tales, blending personal and collective narratives. As stories are shared and the installation evolves with participation, the space becomes a metaphor for rebuilding connection and rekindling community in an increasingly isolated world.
Alli Rogers Andreen is an artist and museum educator specializing in art museum education and multimedia sculpture installation. She makes collaborative, performative work, often exploring concepts of history, femininity, community, and play.
