Amid the COVID pandemic, Cowtown Ball transitions to a week-long online auction to help ensure cancer research continues for future generations. Registration is available now at CowtownBall.org. Bidding will be live September 25 to October 5.
“Each year, we invest $100 million in new cancer research,” said Jeff Fehlis, Executive Vice President of the American Cancer Society. “Because of the fundraising shortfall that we’re experiencing due to COVID, we are at risk of cutting cancer research funding by 50 percent -- this would represent our lowest investment in this century. “
For more than 100 years, the American Cancer Society has invested in research – playing a role in nearly every major cancer research breakthrough in the last century. The American Cancer Society focuses on launching careers of talented, promising cancer researchers at the beginning of their profession to help build a robust community of cancer scientists to ensure continued progress in the fight against cancer. A lack of available funding for cancer research could divert early-stage investigators from the field. The future of cancer research is at risk.
“In its 27 years, this Tarrant County event has raised more than $7.5 million for the American Cancer Society, including research underway in north Texas, educational efforts and related programs,” said Christian Burton, co-chair for the 2020 Cowtown Ball. “Now more than ever, it’s critical for our community to come together to ensure cancer doesn’t get the advantage. Let’s continue to meet this head on and fight.”
All proceeds from the Cowtown Ball Virtual Auction will benefit the American Cancer Society.
