Talk about impossible odds: Messiaen wrote the first sketches Quatuor pour la fin du temps ("Quartet for the End of Time") as a prisoner in Germany during World War II for himself and fellow musician prisoners, who premiered the work at the camp. Be there when pianist Robert Spano and musicians of the FWSO bring to life the anguished voices of the birds of Messiaen's best-known work as well as Mozart's exquisite Quintet for piano and winds.
