Veterans United Foundation of Missouri donated $10,000 to Fort Worth Metro to go toward a new truck.
A Fort Worth-based charity on wheels hits the road again in less than a week thanks to fellow philanthropists.
In a surprise presentation last Friday, Veterans United Foundation of Missouri donated $10,000 to Fort Worth Metro to go toward a new truck. In April, the nonprofit's Ford F-350 that pulls a specialized trailer broke down after a sudden engine failure. Since then, thousands regularly aided on a weekly basis have had to wait.
Nonprofit Fort Worth Metro reaches out to children and families in the city experiencing hardship. Going since 1993, Fort Worth Metro implements a specialized 24-foot sound and stage trailer, Metro travels throughout all areas of the city to provide resources to families in need, including toys, clothing, food, or a simple smile through tough times.
Executive Director Ruth Calzada says Fort Worth Metro will be back out in the community on Sept. 9, according to Veterans United Foundation.
"We couldn’t have done it without this donation," Calzada said last Friday. "We are so thankful.”
Veterans United Foundation is funded by Veterans United Home Loans and its employees, and exists to support communities it works within. Employees at the company's Irving office caught wind of Metro's mission, spurring them to take action.
“When our employees in Dallas heard about the ‘Make METRO Mobile Again’ campaign, they immediately reached out to see what we could do,” said Marcus Jones, outreach coordinator for Veterans United Foundation, in a news release.
