National Medal of Honor Museum
The museum, slated to open in 2024, will have interactive experiences and rotating exhibits that will tell the personal stories of more than 3,500 military service members who’ve received the Medal of Honor.
The National Medal of Honor Museum has chosen its new home — right in the heart of Arlington’s Entertainment District, just blocks away from Texas Live! and the upcoming Globe Life Field.
The museum will make the official announcement Friday at a ceremony at Globe Life Park.
“Arlington, Texas, is the optimal location to build America’s next national treasure — the National Medal of Honor Museum,” Joe Daniels, president and CEO of the National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation, said in a news release. “All of us at the museum were simply overwhelmed with the enthusiasm, warmth, and level of commitment of those involved, who have worked beyond expectation to have the museum come to Texas.”
The museum, slated to open in 2024, will have interactive experiences and rotating exhibits that will tell the personal stories of more than 3,500 military service members who’ve received the Medal of Honor. According to the news release, there will also be an education center “aimed at character development in our nation’s youth.”
Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, is the current home of the National Medal of Honor Museum. However, the museum opted to move in hopes of attracting a larger audience. The nearly year-long search led to the museum selecting Arlington, Washington, D.C., New York City, San Diego, and Denver, as finalists, evaluating factors like location, size, number of visitors, and community support. The museum and city leaders also discussed potential donor support and possibilities for programming.
The National Medal of Honor Museum is currently reaching out to possible architects and will make a selection in early 2020.
