Downtown Fort Worth
Fort Worth artists Letitia and Sedrick Huckaby are looking to paint a portion of downtown's Main Street with a message: "End Racism Now."
On Friday and Saturday, artists and volunteers will paint the phrase on the 800 block of Main Street, just north of the Fort Worth Convention Center — not far from a Martin Luther King Jr. memorial plaque in General Worth Square. The project will be temporary and use water-based paint.
All volunteer spaces have been filled. In light of Tarrant County's new face mask requirement, Letitia Huckaby says organizers are planning to hand out masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer at the event. According to the city, all participants will be required to wear a mask if more than 100 people are present and are unable to social distance at least 6 feet.
"Hopefully it won't stop people from coming out and participating," Huckaby says.
The project has a city permit to temporarily close Main Street between Eighth and Ninth streets, from 6 a.m. Friday through 6 p.m. Sunday. Signs will indicate a detour route for drivers.
